Description

I graduated from Nanyang Technological University (NTU) with a Bachelor of Social Sciences in Psychology Degree. This page contains the original content I started blogging about in order to prove to employers that I could do statistical analysis.

NTU psychology students can use this page as a way to gain a better understanding of the statistical requirements of the programme. There are also mock exams I created for students to assess their statistical proficiency.

While this page is most relevant to my fellow coursemates from NTU, everyone is welcome to take a peek into the statistical content that psychology students learn as part of their undergraduate programme. 😊

NTU Psychology Statistics Modules Overview

HP1100

Fundamentals of Social Science Research

This course focuses on the basics of the basics — covering things like what is a vavriable, measurement scales, basic descriptive statistics, normal distributions. The techniques you will learn in this course mainly revolve around the t-test, and it ends off with a teaser into correlation and regression.

HP2100

Research Design & Data Analysis in Psychology

This course builds upon what you learnt in HP1100 and extends it beyond a simplistic 2 group comparison. Via ANOVA, you learn how to compare between >2 groups at once. Additionally, you learn about how to properly use regression in research — from simple linear regression to multiple regression.

HP3101

Applied Statistical Methods for Psychological Research

HP3101 starts where HP2100 stops. In this module, you learn fancier techniques for predictor selection in multiple regression — such as forwards selection, backwards elimination etc. You cover your bases for your RM ANOVA, whereby you learn the corrections for the Sphericity Assumption Violation and why they work. You cover things like split-plot ANOVA, whereby you have both between and within subject factors in your design.

HP3804

Psychological Testing

What are Psychological Tests? Recall in Psychology when we measure a construct, we typically give participants a series of questions to fill up (this is the test!). For instance, extroversion is measured by the Eysenck Personality Scale — but how did this personality scale come about? What questions should be included in the test? What makes a test good?

HP4012

Applied Multivariate Methods for Psycholgocial Reserach

Ever felt that examining only 1 dependent variable at a time is very limiting? Well yes — it indeed is. In HP4012, you finally learn how to do multivariate analysis, learning about techniques such as structural equation modelling and MANOVA. In addition, you also learn about other cool methods such as logistic regression, cluster analysis, and more!

Revision Guides

This series contains bite-sized statistical concepts designed to help you make sense of what you’re seeing during revision. Rather than focusing on full topics in isolation, these posts highlight the small but important ideas that often get overlooked — the ones that tend to show up unexpectedly in assignments, exams, and real analysis work.

Mock Exams

Need a little additional help? These mock exams I curated are designed to help you test your understanding and prepare more confidently for your exams.
